If you are a Windows 10 PC user and you came across this annoying pop-up saying, “Microsoft Edge is the faster, safer browser designed for Windows”, you’re not alone. For some reason, this happened every time users tried installing other web browsers like Chrome or Firefox. Unsurprisingly users took to different forums to report the issue until it finally came under Microsoft’s radar. The so-called pop-up was being triggered by the Windows 10 “app recommendations” option.
Microsoft did respond by saying that it was just an experiment and that the pop-up was only restricted to Windows Insiders on Fast Ring. Here’s what a Microsoft Spokesperson had to say:
We’ve tested this functionality with Insiders only – The Windows Insider Program enables Microsoft to test different features, functionality and garner feedback before rolling out broadly. Customers remain in control and can choose the browser of their choice.
This new “app recommendations” feature is supposedly a part of a new Windows update which will be coming in October. Once this feature actually hits, this would mean users may even suffer a similar fate when trying to install other apps as well. Let’s hope this feature comes with a turn off option
