Apple launched its most anticipated iPhones a few days back, however, it has since received a lot of criticism for launching phones with iterative updates rather than any industry-leading innovation. Smartphone brands did not miss any opportunity in calling the new iPhones too pricey and the brand slow in introducing a change. Honor, which teased its upcoming Honor Magic 2 at IFA, also called the new iPhones “Mediocre”.

Honor’s CEO, Zhao Ming wrote on Weibo “The new iPhones are mediocre and have an unexpected price for its features, and the industry needs some bold innovation.” He suggested that it is up to the industry leaders to ring in changes and innovation but Apple missed doing so.

An Honor official revealed that the Honor Magic 2 will feature an AMOLED display, a first for the brand and a near 100% screen-to-body ratio. The phone, as showcased at IFA 2018, features a layered design with the rear part sliding upwards revealing the front-facing camera. This allows Honor to use the entire front portion of the device as display and using the minimal top bezel to house earpiece and other sensors.

The company also announced that the Honor Magic 2 will feature the Kirin 980 chipset, another first for Honor and will come bundled with a 40W “Magic Charger” with 15 layers of protection. The display on Honor Magic 2 is said to be a 6-inch display with 1440×2880 pixels resolution.

On the optics side, the Honor Magic 2 may feature AI-powered 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup and a 24-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies, a 3300 mAh battery and may run on Android 8.1 Oreo, which may get updated to EMUI 9 based on Android 9 by the time the phone is launched.

Interestingly, a few brands like OPPO, VIVO, Huawei, and Xiaomi are trying to push the boundaries of innovation by launching devices like OPPO FIND X, VIVO NEX, and Mi Mix 2S. Xiaomi is also going to release Mi Mix 3 soon which also comes with a sliding design exactly like the Honor Magic 2.
