Amazon will reportedly launch new Alexa-powered devices later this month. These new products will range from a microwave oven to an in-car gadget. The report comes from CNBC, which discloses that Amazon is working on at least eight Alexa-powered products, including a subwoofer, an amplifier, and a receiver.
CNBC cites an internal Amazon document and reports,
“Alexa was initially considered a geeky experiment at Amazon. Now it is one of the most popular voice assistants, leading the growth of the burgeoning smart speaker market, which is expected to be worth $30 billion by 2024, according to Global Market Insights.”
Making Alexa available for more products simply tells that the company wants to expand its voice-assistant to more and more areas. With the new products, Amazon is expected to touch the lives of the users more closely.
If the report is to be believed, Amazon will enter into the home appliance market for the first time. This way, Amazon will even compete with the products that have been making use of Alexa, for instance, its established competitors like Sonos and GE.
Back in July while announcing the second quarter sales, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said the company wants customers “to be able to use Alexa wherever they are.” Alexa voice assistant is already available on several other products. Many developers have been adding the Alexa to their devices so as to open new possibilities. And, now Amazon itself is set to launch new products.
It would be interesting to see how Amazon will compete against the existing products that have been making use of the Alexa for a long time now. We expect the reported products to hold some specific features that aren’t available yet on other products. But, it’s yet to be seen.
