Andy Rubin’s ambitious Essential Products start-up has been working on robust software support for its smartphone. Ex-Googler and Android co-founding father Andy Rubin has reportedly canceled Essential Phone 2 development and is reportedly considering selling the company that he had established back in 2015.
According to reports, Rubin is continuing to work on a “game-changing” product which could eventually materialize as an entirely “new kind of phone.” The new device would have a smaller than the standard screen, according to “people familiar with the plans”. The company will be relying mainly on voice commands for a type of user interaction which till now has only been possible in sci-fi movies.
The new mobile device is intended as a “virtual version of you”, and could book appointments, as well as answer emails and text messages by itself. The next generation AI technology will be the next step and will take a long time before it makes it to the consumers.
Essential states that the first prototype of this super-advanced AI phone will be available by the end of the year, and could make it to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2019. It will still pretty early before the product is ready for public showcasing. The device is meant to “complement” people’s smartphones, and not as a replacement for today’s ultra-high-end devices.
Essential’s upcoming phone would work only if it reaches the masses at an affordable price. Both the Essential Phone 2 and Essential Home projects have reportedly been dropped to focus on the revolutionary next product.
“If I can get to the point where your phone is a virtual version of you, you can be off enjoying your life, having that dinner, without touching your phone, and you can trust your phone to do things on your behalf,” he said. “I think I can solve part of the addictive behavior,” Andy says.

It's not very promising to see that Andy Rubin is going to sell his company in just 3 years.
I guess, the right decision. I mean, see, Essential phones sold only in thousands when the figure was in millions for its competitors.
Maybe, a heavy decision for Mr. Andy Rubin. But sounds like he is up to something better now. A "game changing" product won't be that easy to bring out.
AI has developed true and fast in the last 3-4 years. And an enterprenuer like Andy Rubin can visualize what there will be in the same period in the future.
