Pixel Stand breaks ambient notifications; Google promises a fix

06 November 2018 3

Ever since Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have been announced, they’re in the news for either the exemplary camera performance or frequently appearing bugs. So far, Google has accepted a photo saving bug, audio issues while recording video, or even the hilarious but irritating multiple notch bug. It looks like issues with Pixel are here to stay. Quite a few users are reporting that the Pixel Stand breaks the ambient display notifications.

The Pixel stand was introduced with the third generation Pixel devices, pegs a premium price and not only wirelessly charges the Pixel devices but also makes the phone work as a digital photo frame. Even this wireless charger with its own issues. Users have reported that once the device is placed on the Qi-based wireless charger it stops showing the ambient alerts. Removing from the charging stand also doesn't help. While users still keep getting sound and vibrate alerts, notification LEDs only start working once the phone is restarted.

Google has acknowledged the bug and has issued a statement saying that they are working on a fix, though it has not attached any timeline to this and also has not announced if it is going to be an OTA update or a backend fix to the specific applications

Google has stated that “We've seen rare instances in which notifications don't come through when Pixel 3 is docked on Pixel Stand. Restarting the phone can help as a workaround, and we'll be rolling out a fix for this bug in the future. “
