Samsung has been one of the only few brands that have resisted a notch display. In fact, it went all out while making fun of Google for its implementation of the notch on Pixel 3 XL. During its ongoing Developer conference, Samsung talked about its achievements over the years around its curved edge displays and the next gen Infinity Flex display. However, during this session, the South Korean company also revealed the prototype of displays that it has been working on.
“In a bid to shrink bezels further, we’re going to push the limits with our new lineup: the Infinity U, V, and O displays. These are new concepts that are just around the corner.” Stated Hassan Anjum, Samsung’s director of product marketing.
The Infinity U looks like the notch exactly out of the Essential phone’s design. There where it all started from if you remember. While the Infinity V looks similar to the Infinity U notch but slightly edgier. Infinity O, unlike the regular notch, is a circular cutout from the display. Though it looks the most minimal of all the notches, however, is still a notch and looks exactly like the one that we reported earlier as spotted on an Asus Zenfone 6 prototype.
The last one that Samsung displayed was the New Infinity display which does not house any notch and is a fully bezel-less display. Though Samsung didn’t talk much about his display on stage, however, this could be either a slider phone like the Mi Mix 3 or an Honor Magic 2 or even a Vivo NEX or OPPO Find X styled device.
Though Samsung might be the only brand that did not succumb the notch and mocked the likes of Apple and Google repeatedly for their notch design may now announce a device featuring one. Who knows that the Samsung Galaxy S10 or the Galaxy Note 10 may have one if these displays, shown above?
