OnePlus has already confirmed it will bring a 5G smartphone in the coming year but if it’s going to be the OnePlus 7, successor to the OnePlus 6T wasn’t even uttered. But, now according to CNET’s report, OnePlus will launch its first ever 5G smartphone under a completely new series.
CNET says that a spokesperson of the company has revealed to them the 5G smartphone will not replace the OnePlus 6T. This means, the OnePlus 7 will come as a successor to the OnePlus 6T but a 5G smartphone will have a completely new series. This further alludes that the new series will complement the current line and won’t affect the “affordable flagship” aim of the company and thus will retain the importance of the existing lineup.
Launching a new completely new series does hint at the price of these devices. Having the 5G connectivity will obviously increase the price but this shouldn’t be coming alone. The new series should also include the premium features that may not be included in the current flagship series.
The spokesperson, however, didn’t reveal the motto behind this but the aforementioned reasons are the best guesses. But he did reveal that the 5G phone will be launched at the beginning of 2019 which means this could happen at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.
A new phone with 5G means OnePlus will launch three phones next year rather than just two. But, it’s too early to comment on this possibility. Also, we are yet to know what naming convention will be made to this new series. So stay tuned as the next year isn’t too far from us.
