As the world awaits 5G network, hardware manufacturers have started building their processors so that they could empower whatever is coming in the near future. While we here Huawei’s plans of coming up with Kirin 990 CPU, it’s Qualcomm that is coming with Snapdragon 855 chipset as its first 5G chipset. We have some pieces of Qualcomm’s next big mobile platform coming from here and there but now we have something rigid to rely on.
Techcrunch has managed to break Qualcomm’s embargo and leak details of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 processor a few hours early. According to the report which is now no more, the Snapdragon 855 is going to be “the world’s first commercial mobile platform supporting multi-gigabit 5G” dubbing their event a “coming out party for 5G.”
Furthermore, according to the details leaked out, the chipset features a multi-core AI engine with 3x better performance, and silicon enhanced for computer vision and enhanced computational photography. Apart from the 5G, AI, and computational photography, the chipset is also said to have an excellence at gaming and features AR support.
As rumored before, the chipset is reportedly built on a 7nm processor and it will feature three CPU clusters, using four 1.78GHz power-saving cores and three 2.42GHz high-end cores. One of the 4 cores may hit as fast as 2.84GHz and the GPU will be the new Adreno 640 with increased performance.
The report also puts a more rigid plan forward and it’s Qualcomm of showing off its new in-display fingerprint reader, its new ultrasonic 3D Sonic which works through dirt and even screen protectors. According to the report, the sensor may show up in a new Android flagship such as the Samsung Galaxy S10, like accompanying the updated processor also.
Well, these were some key details of the yet to come Snapdragon 855 processor and we will hear more about the same in by Qualcomm itself in a few hours. So stay tuned.
