Samsung finally kills the headphone jack in its new phone

11 December 2018 2

Samsung has been a sole manufacturer which has stayed away from adopting the notch and excluding the headphone jack from its phones, until now. The South Korean company showcased a few display designs at its annual developer conference last month which included designs with minimal notch called Infinity-V and Infinity-U. That is not all, Samsung is also removing the audio jack from its upcoming phones.

The Samsung A8s is world’s first smartphone to feature an in-display selfie camera with a nearly bezel-less design in a display that Samsung calls as Infinity-O. It is Samsung’s first phone to also do away with the 3.5mm audio jack. As strange as it sounds, but Samsung has removed the headphone jack almost two years after Apple first did it with the iPhone 7.

The South Korean company has famously trolled Apple multiple times for not including the audio jack. It also made ads mocking Apple’s decision while promoting its flagship the Galaxy S9. Now the Galaxy A8s will come with a USB-C to 3.5mm jack adapter or famously known as a ‘dongle’.

Not only from the mid-ranged Galaxy A8s, but Samsung is also rumored to be doing away with the audio jack from its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S10, which incidentally could be one of the world’s first few 5G phones. Apart from Samsung, Google and OnePlus had also famously mocked Apple for removing the headphone jack, however, even with the Pixel 2 and the OnePlus 6T, audio jack did a vanishing act.
