Nokia 8 Sirocco receiving Android 9.0 Pie update

10 January 2019 2

The Nokia 8 Sirocco was announced last year in February. The smartphone launched shortly after its announcement and came with Android Oreo out of the box. Ever since, the smartphone has been receiving a lot of love from its manufacturer as not only did it receive a price slash but it also received the latest Android security patch in November 2018. Rumour had it that Android 9.0 Pie was coming to the device and it turns out that the rumour was true. The Nokia 8 Sirocco has started receiving the Android 9.0 Pie update with the December 2018 security patch. The Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, Juho Sarvikas, took to Twitter to share the good news.

The Android 9.0 Pie update is packed into a fairly large file size of 1379.5MB. The large package size leads one to believe that this is the entire Android 9.0 Pie update file and not just the OTA update. The update carries the build number v4.1.20. The update brings a few changes to the device. The changelog reveals that the software update includes new system navigation, updated settings menu as well as refreshed notifications. Given that the software is based on Android Pie, users can expect other features like Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, and predictive application actions.

It isn’t surprising that the Android Pie update has started rolling out for the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Recently, the company has been focusing a lot of pushing out the latest version of Android to its smartphones. Other Nokia smartphones which also received the Android 9.0 Pie update include the Nokia 5.1, Nokia 8, Nokia 7.1, and the Nokia 6.1 Plus.
