Sony to hire 320 engineers in Japan to further mature its image sensor technology

Sony’s image sensors are considered to be among the top-tier technology when it comes to the camera industry and the company has a long history and experience into the product. The company also enjoys over half of the image sensor technology for the smartphone market and continues to upgrade its technology along with partners.

Now as per the recent development, the popular Japanese multination company is aiming to upgrade its sensor technology which. This is seen by how Sony is now aiming to deploy 40 percent of its newly hired engineers in Japan where they’d work on its core image sensor business.

As the demand increases in upcoming years in different categories including smartphone and automobile, this would help it upgrade its technology and to introduce new ones as well in the future. Sony is aiming to hire 320 new engineers aimed to work in Japan in 2019 and these are added to any international job openings. This is a rise of 70 compared to the hires in 2018.

The upscale of the engineering team would be backed by $5.4 billion into its image sensor business in the next three years which would further contribute to the leading profit source of the company. Beside Sony cutting down on image sensor shipments in 2018 considering low demand overall, this policy to upgrade its engineering team would surely reap the fruits in years to come.
