It seems like 2019 is going to be the year of the foldable smartphone. Samsung has started the trend by officially announcing its Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone. The device will likely launch in April. Following in the same footsteps is Huawei with its Mate X and Oppo with its own foldable smartphone. According to information divulged by a person familiar with Motorola’s plans claims that the company will be jumping onto the foldable smartphone bandwagon this summer.
The information points out that Motorola will be selling foldable smartphones as early as this summer. This means that the company must already have a foldable device in the works. The source claims that the design of the foldable smartphone will be extremely unique and different from the foldable devices manufactured by Samsung and Huawei. Perhaps, this device is an attempt to revive the Razr brand. If the device hits the shelves in summer this year, it places it in between the launch of the Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X.
If the new device is the Razr’s design, going by the schematics of a filed patent by the company, we can conclude that it will be quite different from the Galaxy Fold and Mate X . Instead of opening up into a bigger display, the phone will flip down to form a smaller device, just like the original Razr. How will it perform in the real world? Well, we’ll only find out once the device launches!
