At the MWC, the company termed this technology as Crystal Sound OLED display technology, however, according to the recently filed trademark application, LG wants to name this technology “Display Speaker”.
For those who are not aware, Display Speaker is a technology that allows the vibration from the entire display to emit sound. Lg explains this technology as, “takes advantage of the entire display, (it) also improves clarity, making voices easier to discern and subtle musical notes more noticeable.”
The trademark filing for ‘Display Speaker’ was filed on March 6 with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, in ‘Class 9’. The description reads as “audio speakers for smartphones; smartphones in the form of wristwatches; displays for smartphones; OLED displays that function as audio amplifiers and audio speakers.”
It is now being reported that LG may now also use the same technology in its smartwatches in the near future. Though it is speculated that the next smartwatch from LG may not feature this technology as the company is still being developed to be able to make its way to a smartwatch.
Experts state that the space between the watch and the display is still a major issue. LG has also filed a patent for a smartwatch with a camera embedded in its body. Let us see what all LG has got in store for us.
