Apple redesigns Apple TV App with a new subscription feature for Apple TV Channels

26 March 2019 2

Apple has announced a redesigned Apple TV app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV and later this year on Mac and smart TVs. The redesigned app brings together shows, movies, sports, news, and more in one hub making it easier to find content irrespective of the source.

The new App has a “For You” tab that lists shows recommended for the users based on their preferences and viewing history. These suggestions can be for shows or movies from apps, like Hulu, Amazon Prime, DirecTV Now, PlayStation Vue, and more. These suggestions are said to get smarter over time basis the time you spend on the app. The “Watch Now” tab will let users watch the shows or movies from where they left.

The new Apple TV app also offers a new channel subscription service dubbed as Apple TV Channels. It allows users to sign up for a la carte’ channels within the app and where users will have to pay only for the ones that they watch. The list of channels includes CBS All Access, Starz, Showtime, HBO, Nickelodeon, Mubi, The History Channel Vault, Comedy Central Now, and more. The updated app lets users sign up and watch these channels within the app itself without having the users to switch between apps or sing up for a multiple of them at once.

Apart from Apple TV, the Apple TV app will be made available on select non-Apple smart TVs like Samsung, LG, Sony, and Vizio. It'll also be available on Roku and Amazon devices. It also will become available worldwide in more than 100 countries when the OS update arrives.
