Netflix is testing a random play button

20 April 2019 2

Popular movie streaming website Netflix consistently rolls out new updates with improvements. A few months back we saw how it introduced a feature to replay a particular scene and now in the latest development, the company seems to be testing a random play button. This feature aims to play a random episode of the show of your choice in case you’re in the mood to watch the content without considering the narrative.

While there are standalone episodes like Black Mirror might be able to offer arbitrary viewing methods, in proper series like Umbrella Academy or Black Mirror might not support and would be a struggle to do so.

This isn’t the first time the platform has made an effort to do so and we saw how in Love, Death and Robots offered a randomized viewing method allowing to stream episodes in four unique patterns. Would you use such a ‘random’ play method to view your favorite content or you prefer sequential viewing having the importance of storyline in place?
