With the rise of technology, smartphone cameras continue to get better. While we get to see multiple camera unit setups in a modern flagship smartphone, each year we get to see the mobile industry working towards a particular aspect of the cameras, improving them by huge margins. Last year we saw how smartphone companies worked hard to roll out interesting designs to implement front cameras like in notches, flip out cameras and more.
This year, it seems that the race towards achieving greater optical zoom is the talk of the industry where the conventional 2X optical zoom is being pushed forward. Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been working upon this majorly with OPPO working upon the concept of 5X optical zoom. While on the other hand, Huawei came out to be the first company to implement this feature commercially available via Huawei P30 Pro.
Now in the latest devleo9pment, Samsung is working upon a camera module with 5X zoom, which would allow multiple smartphone manufacturers to introduce 5X optical zoom powered camera units quite soon.
Samsung’s Electro-Mechanisms division has crafted a camera module offering 5X optical zoom and that is super slim which is a millimeter slimmer than the conventional 2X zoom module we find in camera units. While many manufacturers would utilize this module for their very own devices, it would be quite interesting to see how Samsung its self would introduce it in the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 device.
Mass production of this 5X module would begin this month, which hints towards its presence in smartphone launching later this year. Are you excited to see more smartphones with 5X optical zoom? Share your views in the comment section below.
