KaiOS Technologies has shared a couple of important milestones of its beautiful journey that it’s been doing for long now for feature phones. First, it has secured $50M of series B funding from Cathay Innovation to connect the next billion people and second is, to date more than 100M devices running KaiOS have been shipped, thus enabling digital transformation in more than 100 countries.
Undoubtedly, KaiOS has become one of the most popular mobile platforms and the new success numbers are just reflecting it. According to the announcement made by KaiOS, the company plans to expand into new markets, invest in product portfolio research and development. The funding will help the company to accelerate the growth of its developers’ community so as to further address the next big number of users.
Reporting an emailed press statement from a publication, the funding round led by Cathay Innovation includes Google and TCL as well. Also, note that previously, the platform receives $22 million cash from Google last year as well. Apart from just funding, the search giant also delivers its top services including YouTube as a lighter mode.
KaiOS Technologies announced 85M devices running KaiOS back in February during MWC event and now the numbers have just grown bigger. The feature phones platform is doing great and growing at a very good pace, considering it's penetrating a market which is highly dominated by smartphones and its major OS, Android. KaiOS is very distinctively making its presence felt in such a scenario by empowering the lower end mobile phones. KaiOS’ growth further represents a major chunk of the market which takes interest in alternatives to smartphones.
The outstanding presence of smartphones easily lets us forget how a significant chunk of the market is getting influenced by new phones. The KaiOS is targeting next billion users and looking at its new record we can fairly assume the company will achieve its aim soon.
