Apple has just released the beta 2 of its newest OS versions and while there are no notable features of many of these versions, the update to Apple TV does show what the tvOS has brought to it. The newest developer beta of tvOS 13 brings picture-in-picture mode to the Apple TV users. This means you would now be able to parallel watch your favorite video song while shuffling through other stuff available on the Apple TV app.
The picture-in-picture mode minimizes any video playing in the Apple TV app to a corner of the screen and lets you browse other things simultaneously so that you don’t need to leave your video while you want to see other stuff on the app. This feature is similar to what the iPad offers. Inside the smaller video windows, there are options to maximize it back to full screen or exit it out entirely.
It’s one of the great features complimenting others like multi-user support in tvOS 13. For now, the picture-in-picture is available in the Apple TV app only but it’s also expected to expand to other apps like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, and other popular streaming services. So, currently in Apple TV, while watching or listening to a song you can dig into more stuff available on the app and may look for a better pick.
It should be noted that the feature wasn’t mentioned or showcased by Apple during the announcement of tvOS at WWDC. So, there’s a possibility this PiP feature may not come into the final tvOS update this fall.
