Redmi and Black Shark are planning to launch their first 5G phones

28 June 2019 0

The tech world is gradually heading towards the next major milestone which is 5G, the fifth-generation cellular network technology. While there are several companies and industry leaders working towards this tech and doing efforts to embrace it eventually, the smartphones sector interests us majorly. So many smartphone leaders have already launched their first 5G smartphone and they are even ready to hit the market soon. This is quite an early stage where more and more companies are joining, and so are the two subsidiaries of Xiaomi.

Redmi and Black Shark are reportedly working on their first 5G phones. Lu Weibing, vice-president of Xiaomi Group and Redmi GM, posted on his Weibo account during the MWC 2019 event that "5G is coming." He said that by the end of next year there will be 5G phones costing less than CNY 2,000 ($300/€260, excluding taxes).

Also, while answering one of the followers’ questions, his reply reflected that a Redmi 5G is also coming. Furthermore, his colleague from the sub-brand Black Shark posted that the R&D team has been preparing to launch the Black Shark 5G phone. However, both the companies didn’t commit to a launch date. But Weibing has, at least, drawn a timeframe for the launch of the companies’ 5G phones which is late 2020.

It’s, however, expected that the first 5G phones from Redmi and Black Shark are going to be the versions of Redmi K20 Pro and Black Shark 2 since both are powered by Snapdragon 855 processor.

In related news, Xiaomi, their parent company will soon launch its first 5G phone, Mi MIX 3 5G.
