Sony appears to have a new smartphone with a 5K resolution screen in the making. This came to notice from a leaked user-agent (UA) profile for an upcoming smartphone. Spotted first by a Japanese site, the listed resolution of this unnamed device is 5046x2160 pixels. Thus the device in question could become the first smartphone with a 5K-resolution screen.
The phone is listed with the model number J8220 and it’s believed to be called the Sony Xperia 1R, not the Xperia 2 as was suggested in earlier reports. The size of the display is unknown but as pointed out by GSMArena, it could be around 6.5-inch at least, given that the Xperia 1 with the 4K resolution has a 6.5-inch screen. This would put the pixel density at 899ppi. The resolution also indicates that it will be a 21:9 aspect ratio screen like that of the Sony Xperia 1.
Recalling the reported design of the Xperia 1R, the device is expected to feature triple rear cameras. Previously, the report based on two user-agent profiles indicated a resolution of 3840x1644 pixels. And the latest one indicates something entirely new. Well, the phone is expected to get unveiled in September at IFA Berlin 2019 and we have enough time to welcome new tips and leaks and know more about this confusing device.
