Apple has re-enabled the Walkie-Talkie feature on Apple Watch with the release of the new watchOS 5.3 an iOS 12.4 update. Apple disabled this feature before due to an exploit that could have allowed someone to snoop in. According to Apple, intruders could have taken advantage of secretly listening in without consent. This was indeed a serious issue and needed a quick fix.
Apple didn’t take much time in bringing the fix for the same. The exploit was discovered a few days back this month and now the fix is in front of us. The company while making aware its users about the exploit said that it doesn’t believe that any unscrupulous actor took the advantage of this vulnerability. This means your data was secured while in the Walkie-Talkie app on.
The release notes of the update note, “provides important security updates including a fix for the Walkie –Talkie app.”
Well, exact details on the watchOS Walkie-Talkie vulnerability remain unclear. But it’s good to note that Apple was just made aware of the bug on time and took action before it had blown up and gone viral like the Group FaceTime privacy issue.
Apple brought the Walkie-Talkie with the release of watchOS 5 last year. This feature allows you to easily communicate with other Apple Watch users just like the classic walkie-talkie.
