LG’s “LG Rolling” trademark has been approved by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). LG applied for the trademark on July 19th and got the approval on July 25th. The listing doesn’t mention the details but it does classify the trademark as Class 9 product which alludes it’s related to smartphones, displays wearables, and more.
It’s expected that LG has trademarked this for its foldable smartphone which it may choose to introduce soon. However, there isn’t enough material available that could help in consolidating the speculations. The reports on LG is working on the foldable phone have been around for a very long time now but we haven’t yet seen anything substantial regarding the same. There are already many patents available and reported as well but nothing has taken the shape of reality.
Again, the trademark brings along nothing with itself but it’s a great hint at the company’s plans for a greater shift in the smartphones business.
LG rollable smartphone could be the company’s attempt at bringing the rollable TV like technology to smartphones. This is just our guess but it does make sense, considering if we refer to one of its kind already showcased by the company. This year at CES event in January, LG showcased the rollable OLED TV which is a concept but expected to enter mass production soon.
We don’t have any workable foldable phone yet on the market. Samsung and Huawei have debuted their take on the foldable phones but their products are still not available. There are a couple of other names as well and LG is now among them.
