Unlike past, today we have many options to keep our phones charged even if the usage is high. The phones house massive battery capacities these days and besides this, there are other options available as well that do not let the batteries drain or your phone dry, take, for instance, power banks, fast-charging support, and the very latest reverse charging that means you can charge your device from another device in case of emergency.
The reverse charging process hasn’t become mainstream yet but it may become a trend soon as more and more manufacturers are adding this functionality to their devices. Xiaomi is one such name that may bring the reverse charging tech in its yet to come Mi Mix 4 device. A trace has been found inside the MIUI Beta by one of the members at XDA Developers. A string is spotted which drops a strong hint at the presence of reverse charging tech. XDA adds that the feature will be “turned off automatically if charging doesn’t start within 90 seconds”.
Note that the strings found in the MIUI beta build don’t, of course, mention the name of the device but given that the reverse charge is somewhat a premium feature, it may not arrive in mid-range or budget devices. For comparison, the feature is available with Huawei P30 Pro and the Galaxy S10 smartphones. Xiaomi has one major flagship left to launch in the second half of 2019 and it’s believed to be the Mi Mix 4. Currently, only Mi Mix 2S and Mi 9 support wireless charging but neither of the devices supports reverse charging tech via which they can charge other devices as well.
The tech site 91Mobiles cites a recent comment by Xiaomi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas and states that Mi Mix 4 will have even faster wireless charging than the one available on Mi 9. Since the Mi Mix 4 is confirmed the get the wireless charging support, the reverse charging tech may be debut via this product only. The speculations on the Mi Mix 4 have just started and we will hear more about the device in coming days and this doubt may get clear soon.
