Facebook to rebrand Instagram and WhatsApp to inform you who's in charge

05 August 2019 0

Facebook is reportedly planning to rebrand its acquired apps Instagram and WhatsApp to signal its control over the two apps. This is a big move and does make sense as the two apps have been operating under Facebook for so long now.

According to a report from The Information citing people familiar the matter, Facebook will soon rename the two apps to Instagram from Facebook and WhatsApp for Facebook to show who’s in charge of them. The change wouldn’t be just limited to the marketing or promotional stuff as Facebook intends to reflect the changes on Google Play and App Store as well. So, that eventually the users could also address them with the new names.

According to the report, employees for the apps have already been notified about the changes. The two apps perform under Facebook but had been branded independently but soon it’s going to change for good.

In response to the report, Facebook has reportedly said,

“We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”

Changing the identity of the two acquired apps is understandable and it should have been done before.

It’s believed that by adding the “from Facebook” tag, the company is trying to spread awareness that it makes less controversial apps too. The company has been the talk of the tech town due to some privacy mishaps, scandals, and many questionable things and debates. Its two acquired apps have been doing great and the company may want to highlight that it has more apps and services under its hub that are clean and evolving.

The new names WhatsApp for Facebook and Instagram from Facebook are expected to change soon and the effect will be seen on several platforms and eventually in media or so.
