Huawei is bringing its mapping service Map Kit in October

14 August 2019 0

Huawei is developing its own mapping service which it will announce in October as the company wants to further reduce its dependency on Google and its services. According to what is mentioned during the company’s Developer Conference, the name of this mapping service is Map Kit and it isn't meant for commercial use among the users.

The Map Kit will be encouraged among the software developers so that they could develop applications that require mapping capabilities. Currently, Russian’s Yandex and US travel aggregator are partnering with Huawei on the mapping service.

Huawei’s Map Kit will be available across 150 countries and regions and in 40 languages. It will offer real-time traffic conditions, a highly-advanced navigation system that could recognize when a car switches between lanes. It will also bring support for AR mapping said Zhang Pingan, the president of cloud services at Huawei Consumer Business Group.

Map Kit comes as one of its planned Huawei Mobile Services (HMS). The others include Site Kit, Drive Kit, and Scan Kit, etc. There isn’t much known about the Map Kit but we will get more familiar with it in October when Huawei announces it officially.

In related news of reducing dependency on Google, Huawei unveiled its in-house operating system called the HarmonyOS on Friday. Huawei was clearly not sitting idle when the black clouds were hovering over it. The Chinese company made itself ready for any consequences coming in its way.
