Minecraft gets a high degree of visual realism with NVIDIA RTX

20 August 2019 0

Microsoft has announced that it will use NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX Ray Tracing tech to bring more realistic graphics to its Minecraft video game on personal computers running Windows 10. NVIDIA’s RTX is a graphics rendering development platform which enables ray tracing to offer a high degree of visual realism in several games.

Here also, in Minecraft, the ray-tracing will trace the path of light as pixels in an image plane and produce realistic graphics in real-time. The ray tracing is capable of simulating a wide variety of optical effects, such as reflection, scattering, refraction, dispersion, and more. According to NVIDIA, lighting is upgraded, shadowing gains lifelike accuracy, and other elements in a game like clouds, fog, or other atmospheric effects naturally change to enhance the overall scene.

NVIDIA has offered several RTX ON and OFF shots to tell you the importance of having ray tracing enabled. You can see Minecraft with RTX interactive comparison that NVIDIA has posted especially for the gaming enthusiasts. For a quick reference, we have added images below.

NVIDIA exemplifies that without ray tracing or in normal Minecraft, you would see the blocks of gold as yellow. But with ray tracing enabled, you get to see a specular highlight, you can get to see the reflection, light seeping in through the windows, hitting colored carpets and reflecting on to the walls. NVIDIA also tells that in-game designs that were previously impossible, now become a reality, thanks to ray tracing. Like, “a spooky ravine that fades into darkness, filled with hostile mobs drawn to the light of the player’s torch; fun houses made of mirrors; or caves that glow with the precious resources or dangerous lava within.”

Minecraft is a video game that allows players to build a 3D world with the help of a variety of blocks. Players can place and break various types of blocks in a 3D environment. The game includes activities like exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and combat. It doesn’t have any specific goal to accomplish and it offers players the freedom in choosing how to play the game. However, there’s an achievement system. Minecraft is the best-selling video game as of May 17, 2019. And, now with NVIDIA’s ray-tracing tech, players will be able to generate endless ray-traced content for themselves and others.
