Microsoft has released a new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18970 (20H1) to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. The update brings many new things, but the most significant one is the redesigned tablet experience.
This new experience is available for 2-in-1 convertibles PCs and it allows users to have a similar desktop experience while they are inside the tablet mode. In the newly designed tablet experience, the desktop will remain in full view with the taskbar icons visible and increased spacing between them. Currently, Windows 10 throws you into a more tablet-based UI where there’s no taskbar.
Furthermore, with the new update, the search box will collapse into an icon and the touch keyboard will reappear when you tap on a text field. File Explorer also gets a touch-optimized layout.
The new changes will be enabled when you remove a keyboard from a device like a Surface Pro. Note that these changes have only been made available for 2-in-1 devices.
Also, these changes have been made available to the Windows 10 insiders only but they should soon be released to everyone as well.
The new build also rolls out the revamped Cortana experience and a few other notable features, including the new cloud download option to reset and restore Windows 10 PCs.
This allows the users to quickly reinstall the OS without having to install them on the local disk or recovery USB drive. This feature will be helpful to the users who are blessed with a good internet connection because the cloud download could take big GBs of data. Do care that this recovery operation removes apps you have installed and also deletes the user’s data.
Apart from these notable features, Microsoft also fixes some major issues via Windows 10 build 18970.
