Pixel 4 Live Caption feature to come to Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a in December

16 October 2019 0

Google Pixel 4 comes with some amazing features, among which is the Live Caption that can transcribe audio into text in real-time. It can transcribe any audio, be it from a video, podcast, or an Instagram Story right in front of you on the screen. As Google defines it “Anything that has audio can have captions.”

This feature is going to be helpful in situations where you can’t increase the volume or in a loud environment or recording audio and then also being able to search through them later. It’s also a great way to interact with people with special abilities.

Those who’re unfamiliar can watch the video below and know about the feature better.

Interestingly, this feature isn’t really Pixel 4 exclusive and may eventually land on other non-Pixel devices running Android 10. But in the beginning, it will come to the Pixel 3 and even the cheaper Pixel 3a device. During a conversation with Android Police at Made by Google event, a Google spokesperson reportedly confirmed that Pixel 3/3a devices will receive this feature in just 2 months, which could be at the end of December.

According to Google, the Live Caption needs some processing power but it’s interesting to note that it’s coming to the Pixel 3a as well. The processing power indicates the feature may only come to some Android devices with some decent processor.

It’s hard to tell when other devices running Android 10 will gain this functionality. But if Pixel 3/3a devices are getting this December, expect the feature to come to your capable device in 2020 only.
