Latest Android 10 release enables gesture support to third-party launchers

18 October 2019 0

Google Android 10 brings some interesting features with itself and one of them is the full-screen gesture navigation support. But the feature didn’t make its way to the third-party launchers, thus making them look old over the latest implementation. Many developers objectified it and wished to see it coming soon. Well, now this is about to change as it seems Google has finally addressed the issue via a new Android 10 release.

The full system gesture navigation appears to be working with Nova, Action or any other launcher and to start with the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL are giving you that facility already. Previously, attempting to enable full gesture setup would produce an error message but now the followers of third-party launchers will be able to use this essential feature alongside their favorite feature of the launcher.

This is good news for the developers; reportedly the Nova Launcher developer said to Android Police,

We're thrilled to hear that Google is now supporting gesture nav for third party launchers. We appreciate the communities persistence in asking Google for this. I'm looking forward to testing and using this when I get my Pixel 4.

We're hoping to see Google quickly roll this out to devices that have the initial release of Android 10, either through Project Mainline or the next security update.

Currently, it’s Pixel 4 exclusive and even Pixel 3 on the latest software doesn’t offer this feature. But the availability may happen soon followed by other Android 10 phones as well.
