It was evident that the end of support for the Windows 10 Mobile OS is near. And, now it is finally happening. So, those who have been sticking to their Windows mobile phones, need to switch to some new platforms immediately. Although Microsoft had already suggested its users to switch to either Android or iOS, the support is ending officially now only.
Microsoft stopped working on any features or updates way back in 2019 and the Windows 10 Mobile version 1709 was the last release from the company. Now, the support for Windows 10 Mobile is ended, which means there will be no free assisted support options, non-security hotfixes, new security updates, or even technical content updates from Microsoft.
As announced by Microsoft, device backups for settings and some apps will still work for three months from now, means till March 2020. However, a few services including photo uploads, restoring a device from an existing device backup may continue to work for up to another 12 months from the end of support.
Also, the Office apps will continue to receive support until January 12th, 2021. Microsoft says these mobile apps for Office are governed by Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy which means they will experience the support through the end of this lifecycle. However, Microsoft recommends switching to Android and iOS as the platforms have better support, integration services and features, and more.
After the aforementioned date, the users will no longer be able to install these Office apps on phones using Windows 10 Mobile.
