One of the biggest changes that 2020 smartphones will adorn is definitely the camera. We have been hearing through leaks and rumors that companies are betting high and looking to pace up in mobile photography. Samsung is one such company that has specific plans to spice up its game in the mobile photography industry.
The famous tipster @IceUniverse on Twitter recently tipped a 108MP camera sensor with periscope zoom for the Galaxy S11. It is tipped that Samsung would rather use 9:1 pixel binning technology for crispier outcomes even in the low light, thanks to the record pixel size of 2.4 microns.
However, the South Korean company is not going to settle on this image sensor only. Going by another tip from the same tipster, Samsung is also planning to make 144MP sensors based on the 14nm process. This is not it as the tipster has also shared a couple of images that depict the importance of having an image sensor based on the 14nm process.
Crazy, Samsung is planning to use a 14nm process to make 144MP sensors. pic.twitter.com/H9PvLUuqYY— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 16, 2019
Going by the infographic, the 14nm FinFET process expected to improve power consumption by 42% in 144M pixel density. It is a verity that smaller process figures accumulate a larger number of transistors inside an integrated circuit and such chips offer improved performance and are energy efficient. This is what the graph shared by the tipster shows as well. The 12MP ISP made using the 14nm FinFET process uses a 37% less energy in digital and 18% less in analog than a 12MP ISP made using the 28nm planar process.
The 144MP image sensor does not come as a surprise especially when the arrangement is already present. Snapdragon 865 processor which is going to be a staple for most flagship phones in 2020 has the support for up to 200MP image sensors.
The 108MP sensor that Galaxy S11 is expected to include may deliver 50x hybrid zoom, so expect the 144MP to have an even higher zooming capability.
Currently, we are unable to foresee the usage of the 144MP in the near future. It is expected that we may see it getting featured on a Galaxy S-series phone coming in 2021 only.
Well, let’s just wait for the next year to come where many tangles will get untwisted.
