OnePlus held its special Screen Technology communication event in China to reveal what it is planning to bring in the near future. The company’s CEO Pete Lau had already teased the main highlight ahead of the event, so the official disclose holds nothing new. However, at the event, OnePlus focused on some intricacies related to the display as well so to woo you more.
The presentation that OnePlus offered on the technology includes many technical details that may not interest many but could be informational for those who even look into the minute details.
Needless to say, the start of the show is, of course the 120Hz refresh rate and while the company didn’t disclose the name of the phone featuring this tech, we are guessing it to be the OnePlus 8 Pro. OnePlus has reportedly claimed that it has made a few unique optimizations to 120Hz display that could further guarantee amazing navigation experience, these are smoothness, accuracy, and comfort.
The slides also show 2K OLED display and 240Hz touch sampling rate, as well as just 8.3ms of rendering time for each frame. There is something called “Smooth Chain” which could be representing the combination of hardware and software optimization along the entire touch input and display output chain. This may be responsible for bringing down the delay between the input and response.
One of the slides also shows the frame rate smoothing in games, maybe something similar to Huawei’s GPU Turbo tech. Also, the company is using the JNCD (Just Noticeable Color Difference) accuracy metric and claims a value lower than 0.8 (anything below 1 on that scale is considered great). The screen has the highest color reproduction standard of JNCD<0.8. This beats the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s JNCD<0.9 and the industry average of JNCD <2. These new screen panels have 4096 levels of brightness adjustment, up from 1024.
We would learn which device is going to feature this tech real soon. So, stay connected.
