OnePlus may finally be bringing the long-awaited wireless charging support and the tech could make its debut via the feature-rich OnePlus 8 Pro. Recently, the known tipster Max J. shared the concept of a OnePlus 8 Pro mockup getting charged on a wireless charging pad and this tipped the possibility of the OnePlus 8 Pro coming with the wireless charging support. And, now the listing (spotted first by Mobilescout) of the company on the members’ list of Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) offers concrete support to the tip and increases the chances of believing in speculations.
The name of the company, OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. can be seen on the list of WPC members, indicating that the company has joined the association and may soon bring its device that would use Qi wireless charging. Note that this association is a requirement for creating devices that use Qi wireless charging and OnePlus' listing under the OEM/ODM suppliers, specifies the company is finally enabling the support for its upcoming phones.
Upon clicking on its entry, the pop-up appears that shows the status of its membership with the consortium and according to its description, OnePlus is a full member of it.
It is, however, unknown when the company joined the group. But looking back at last year (via AndroidPolice) when Oppo was listed on the consortium’s record, there was no direct mention of OnePlus on the list. It was, though, assumed that OnePlus could also bring the wireless charging support to the upcoming phones, since both the companies operate under one company and frequently share technology and resources with each other.
Now, the direct mention of OnePlus under the OEM/ODM suppliers, indicates a high chance of the wireless charging support finally making its way to the OnePlus phones.
