Facebook announces reactions feature

24 February 2016 0

Facebook has expanded its emojis from the simple like button to include more emotions including Love, Haha, Wow, Sad and Angry. To use the emoji's users will have to simply press and hold on the Reactions button and select the one that you want. Reactions have been launched globally across Android, iOS and desktop platforms, and will be compatible with the latest iteration of the Facebook app.

According to Sammi Krug, the product manager behind reactions the company had been working on creating the reactions button for over a year now. The team conducted a lot of research via surveys analysis of popular stickers and more before launching Reactions.

"People come to Facebook and share all kinds of things," says Sammi Krug. "And we kept hearing feedback from people that there wasn't an easy way to express empathy for these different kinds of posts."

The company had started testing six emoticons last year, however decided to launch five as they wanted to launch the reactions that people would understand globally. "One of the things we really wanted to be careful of is will this translate well" says Krug. "We wanted these reactions to be globally understood."

However this is not all, the company plans to roll out more reactions over time after receiving feedback from customers. "Once this actually rolls out, we'll learn more about how people use the feature," says Krug. "We'll continue to iterate it over time, based on user feedback."
