New OnePlus TV update brings OnePlus Connect iOS support, Data Saver Plus

06 July 2020 0

OnePlus has announced the release of a new OnePlus TV update that will bring new features to models other than the recently launched affordable Y-series. It brings features like OnePlus Connect support on iOS, Data Saver mode, and Kids mode. These will arrive on the OnePlus Q-series of premium TVs and all-new OnePlus TV 55 U1 model.

Starting with OnePlus Connect, it is an app that allows users to control OnePlus TV through their smartphones. It essentially transforms the phone into a remote control with an enhanced trackpad. It enables features like casting and mirroring but the unique thing is that it even lets users take and share screenshot of what's on the TV screen. The app was available only on Android but has now been expanded to support iOS devices.

The Data Saver Plus is a feature meant to help users save data consumption while using their OnePlus TV models. It is beneficial fr those who have limited data or using mobile phone's hotspot connectivity. It is being touted as an enhanced version of the Data Saver mode and hence the use of "Plus" in the name. It will achieve data saving via bandwidth control and will also monitor the monthly usage of data.

Next up, we have the Kids Mode which works exactly the way its name suggests. It is a mode dedicated to kids to help parents find kid-friendly content. Parents can choose to lock certain apps as well as put a watch time limit. Lastly, OnePlus users can long press on any OxygenPlay poster to get an overview of the show/movie.

This new OnePlus TV update bears the version number BOVC101RIN04S01090V1.12.1T2006210016. It is said to be an incremental update which means some users will receive it earlier than others.
