Amazon Fire TV gets live TV channels support in India

08 October 2020 0

Amazon has announced the biggest Fire TV software update in India which brings Live TV support. This will let users watch live TV channels online directly through the dongle. The new feature is available through all Fire TV devices: Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and newly launched Fire TV Stick Lite.

Once the update is available for your device, you will see a new "Live TV" tab in the interface. The feature currently supports live TV channels accessible through SonyLIV, Voot, Discovery+, and NextG TV applications. The team is also working on adding Zee5 support soon. The user will need to have an active subscription to these apps for being able to watch live TV channels online.

The subscription will allow them to watch popular TV channels like Sony SAB HD, Colors HD, SET HD, Nick HD+, Dangal, DD National, News18 India, MTV Beats HD, SONY BBC Earth HD, Mastii TV Music, and Discovery. All Zee channels will be available once Zee5 support becomes active. The home screen will have a new "On Now" row showing what is currently playing live on a particular TV channel. It will offer a thumbnail of the show and a Red bar showing the show's progress.

The Live TV feature comes with TV guide support like it is available with dish network providers. All Fire TV Stick Lite users will be able to access the guide using the dedicated button available on the Alexa Voice Remote Lite. Other users will have to browse through the app UI to use the guide. Amazon has further added voice command support for playing TV channels. It means users can say, "Alexa, Watch Colors HD" to start watching the Colors HD channel.

The Fire TV Live TV support update for existing users rollout has already begun in India. It is expected to reach all the users by the in the coming few weeks.
