Oppo has finally stepped into the smart TV market with its two TV options – TV S1 and the TV R1. The Oppo TV S1 is a premium among the two but it comes only in a single 65-inch model, while the TV R1 comes in 65-inch as well as the 55-inch model. Both the TV S1 and the TV R1 from Oppo feature the latest tech of the industry, including 4K panels, Wi-Fi 6 support. They run the company’s ColorOS TV and have Breeno voice assistant, the company’s digital assistant that is available only in China.
The Oppo TV S1 model has an OLED quantum dot panel that supports an 8Hz-120Hz variable refresh rate and features NTSC120% color gamut, has a peak brightness of 1500 nits. The TV also supports MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation), a frame interpolation technology that adds additional frames between the original frames for the content to appear smoother. The tech adjusts the frames of a video being played according to the refresh rate of the screen so that you enjoy smooth transitions.
The Oppo TV S1 display has a 3840x2160 pixels resolution and it is powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A73 MediaTek MT9950 processor with Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The hardware is coupled with 8.5GB RAM and has 128GB storage. It comes with a 1080p pop-up camera for video calls. The Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 802.11.ax (2.4GHz+5GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, 2x HDMI 2.1, 1x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, 1x optical, 1x Ethernet, NFC one-key screen projection. It supports up to 85W speaker system and Dolby Atmos.
The Oppo TV R1 is powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A73 MediaTek MT9652 processor, Mali-G52 MC GPU coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage option. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax (2.5GHz+5GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, 3x HDMI 2.1, 2xUSB 2.0, 1x Ethernet, 1x optical. It features a 20W speaker system with Dolby Audio. The Oppo Smart TV R1 does not have a pop-up camera system.
The price of the Oppo Smart TV S1 65-inch is 7999 yuan ($1196). The price of the Smart TV R1 55-inch is 3299 yuan ($493) and the R1 55-inch costs 4299 yuan ($643). The Oppo TVs are already available for order in China.
Reports on Oppo working on its first smart TVs started appearing back in 2018 but the company took much time to come with some solid contenders. Its Chinese competitions like Xiaomi and Honor (sub-brand Huawei) are doing well in this business by developing some affordable options. It is likely that Oppo will launch its new smart TVs in countries like India where this segment is growing aggressively.
