Google TV was introduced last year as a way for making it convenient for Android TV users to browse through content. It supports adding multiple Google accounts but offers recommendations only from the primary account. This is something that never made sense but it is now expected to change in the near future.
As spotted by 9to5Google folks in a recent APK teardown, Google is preparing to add multiple profiles support to Google TV. It simply means users will be able to create individual profiles and switch among them. This will work similarly to how we have user profile options available with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video streaming platforms.
This will allow multiple users living in the same household to be able to enjoy their favorite shows and recommendations with just one simple switch. They will only have to choose their profile from the list of all available profiles. It will also ensure that suggestions for the primary account holder do not get ruined because someone else watched something.
It is important to note that signs of this new feature have only been spotted in an APK teardown. There is no information on exactly when Google will make it available for public usage. We will keep you posted as more details will surface or if Google makes an official announcement.
