Chromecast with Google TV went official in 2020 and has proved to be quite popular among Android TV users. It has various features that improve the streaming experience on a smart TV. But there is one particular feature that users have been asking for a long time. It is user profiles that Google has finally started to roll out widely.
As per 9to5Google, few of the Chromecast with Google TV users have started to see the Profiles feature on their respective units. It is helpful when you have multiple people using the same Chromecast for watching their preferred movies and TV shows. Each user profile on the device is linked with a particular Google account. It means if you want to add a new profile, you will need to log in with a new Google account.
This is a slightly different approach from what we see with the majority of the streaming services. They allow you to create multiple profiles through a single email address. Google's approach does make sense though as it will allow users to keep their watch history and personalized recommendations synced with their accounts. They can then sign in to any other device anytime to resume without having to start fresh.
It should be noted that Profiles is rolling out to Chromecast with Google TV users in a gradual manner. It is a server-side change that will take some time before it comes available for everyone. Once available, new profiles can be added by visiting Google TV settings > Accounts & Sign in > Add account. This is where you will need to sign in with the Google account that you want to add as a user profile.
