Google has finally released the Android 12 update for Chromecast with Google TV (4K). The streaming dongle was launched in 2020 and it booted Android 10 out of the box. It did not receive any major upgrades since the release but after about two years, the team has made a jump from Android 10 to Android 12.

The update weighs about 722MB and bears the build number STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754. It is the reason we suggest connecting to WiFi before downloading the update. The new software also bumps the Android security patch level to July 2022. It was previously available for May 2022.

The new Android version brings a number of changes including ones related to security and privacy. It now offers toggles for enabling and disabling camera and microphone access for all apps. This is to give users additional control over what apps can access the microphone and camera.
