Valve coming with its own VR headset called Index in May

01 April 2019 3

Valve, the American video game developer is coming up with its own VR headset. The company has even teased the arrival of this on its site with a launch month of May 2019. The name of the VR headset is Valve Index and the company made no other details available that could tell what this device will be capable of.

Rumors on Valve launching its VR headset appeared before but with no tentative launch date, however, it was reported that Valve’s own VR headset has a 135-degree field of view. It also came to notice that Valve is working on its own set of motion controllers that it’s been testing with developers for quite some time.

Coming back to the teaser spotted on the site, it clearly writes “upgrade your experience” and listing May 2019 as what we assume to be the launch date.

But you can clearly see from the teaser provided what the Valve Index is holding. Seems like, the device has two wide-angle cameras maybe something similar to the Oculus Quest or other second-gen VR headsets. On the left of the device is the adjustment slider, presumably for interpupillary distance (IPD), so it can accommodate people whose eyes are set closer together or further apart than average.

  • After reading the story, gives me a feeling like only the rumors have come true regarding the new Vr headset. No specs or anything about the Valve Index.

      • As of now, I suspect, HTC is still doing great when it comes to the VR division. But only the Valve Index VR headset's specs should give some idea of where the competition is.

          • Yeah, but something like the 135-degree field of view feature, should give some idea. This is definitely going to work for better viewing experience. And that too in VR.
