Samsung unveils integrated chips optimized for truly wireless earbuds

24 March 2020 0

Samsung has taken wraps off a couple of new power management integrated chips (PMICs) specifically optimized for true wireless earphones. These new offerings are MUA01 and MUB01 that are capable of providing long-lasting battery life as they are smaller in size and leave more space for bigger batteries.

Both of these integrated chips can be used for truly wireless earphones and charging case. Samsung says that it has integrated up to ten discrete components within these new PMICs. It is now claimed to occupy only half the space when compared with other options in the market. This is a significant improvement considering how small wireless earbuds are.

The MUA01 is the more capable IC between the two. It is said to be the world's first chip to support wired as well as wireless charging within a single chip. It is compatible with Qi 2.3.4 wireless charging standard issued by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It further has a microcontroller unit (MCU) and embedded Flash (eFlash) that helps in relevant modifications to support other applications.

Samsung says that both MUA01 and MUB01 integrated chips have already entered the mass production stage. These are also the ones that can be seen inside the Galaxy Buds+ truly wireless earbuds that were announced recently.
