There are many speculations around Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch and for some obvious reasons we were addressing the next major smartwatch as Galaxy Watch 2. But, a new certification filing suggests the actual name could be the “Galaxy Watch 3.”
The next major iteration to the Galaxy Watch has already gained many certifications but the latest one, which is the NBTC, reveals something that had not been uttered before.
The filing suggests the name of the smartwatch is Galaxy Watch 3 and it has the model name SM-R855F. The listed size of the smartwatch is 41mm but there could be other sizes as well. The listing also suggests cellular connectivity (WCDMA/LTE), this is similar to the original Galaxy Watch that also comes in the LTE model.
Meanwhile, two variants of the upcoming Galaxy Watch have also been spotted on Samsung support pages in Korea. These are model names SM-R840 and the SM-R850.
It is unknown why Samsung is skipping the Galaxy Watch 2 branding and going for the Galaxy Watch 3. But as XDA Developers points out, this is possibly a marketing decision that Samsung had to take presumably because of the Galaxy Watch Active 2. One thing to note is that Samsung is not skipping the iterative numbers for the first time. It launched the Galaxy Note 7 after Note 5 and brought Galaxy S20 series after the Galaxy S10.
The leaks on the next Galaxy Watch have shared some key details so far. It is possible the Galaxy Watch 3 may feature a physical rotating bezel for better access to the stuff inside. This is in contrast to the touch bezel available with the Galaxy Watch Active 2. The Galaxy Watch 3 is expected to retain stainless steel case, Gorilla Glass DX display, 5ATM water resistance, MIL-STD-810G rating for durability, ECG, and blood pressure monitoring.
It is expected the Galaxy Watch 3 could launch at the rumored August 5 online-only event where the star of the show is going to be the Galaxy Note 20.
