Even though the highlights of the Apple's WWDC 2020 were related to iOS 14, macOS Big Sur, and a complete transition to ARM for Mac chipsets, there were other announcements as well. We are talking about the all-new watchOS 7 and tvOS 14 which are meant for Apple Watch and Apple TV respectively. These are packed with new features and performance improvements which we will cover one by one.
Starting with watchOS 7, the majority of the big changes are related to offering a more personalized user experience while also improving health and fitness capabilities. It adds the ability to share watch faces with each other so that users can discover new watch faces related to their needs and preferences. The watch faces can be shared through Messages, mail, website links, social media platforms, and App Store. If you have happened to receive a watch face that you like but do not have all the apps installed required for it to work, it will offer a quick way of installing those apps.
Apple has introduced sleep tracking with watchOS 7 that will offer insights related to sleep quality. It will be able to detect when a user is sleeping with the help of "micro-movements" detected by the accelerometer. It will calculate the amount of time the user has slept and will offer him relevant data the next morning. It will offer a quick overview on the Apple Watch but a detailed report will be accessible through the iPhone. The feature will also encourage users to sleep on time and follow a regular sleeping pattern on a daily basis.
Since we all are battling a global pandemic i.e. COVID 19, it has become crucial that we wash our hands regularly and for at least 20 seconds. Apple Watch with watchOS 7 will offer automatic wash detection that will help you take care of the second part. It will automatically detect when you will be washing your hands and set a 20 seconds countdown timer. If a user stops early, there will be a prompt asking them to keep going.
tvOS 14 is the new operating system version that brings new Apple TV features. The biggest change included is deeper integration with Home and HomeKit accessories. This will allow Apple TV to broadcast feed from your security camera to the big screen without any hassles. There is even Picture-in-Picture mode support so that it does not ruin the experience of the app you are already using.
Apple Arcade games on the platform now support multi-users which will be beneficial for family users. It will allow creating different user-profiles and resume game progress from the point where he left. The new version further offers 4K streaming for videos stored in the Photos application.
