OnePlus Watch spotted on certification website | UPD: round dial

11 September 2020 0

UPDATE (September 11th, 2020):

Max J. of AllAboutSamsung.de has tweeted a teaser suggesting OnePlus Watch could feature a circular design. This is different from the usually seen smartwatches that come with a square-shaped or rectangle-shaped dial. This is contrast what many were expecting as speculations were that it will simply be a rebranded Oppo smartwatch.

Original (August 28th, 2020)

For the past year or so, OnePlus has been working on going beyond smartphones and diversifying its catalog. It has already released products like smart TVs, TWS earphones, wired earphones, and even a wireless charging pad. Smartwatches appear to be the next product category on target for the brand as the OnePlus Watch name has been spotted online.

As reported by 91Mobiles, OnePlus has received IMDA certification for a low-power wearable device. The listing reveals "brand name" for the product to be OnePlus Watch. This confirms that the product in question is indeed a smartwatch. The model number of the watch is W301GB which has also been revealed by the listing.

Unfortunately, the listing does not reveal anything else about the product. This is not the first time we are hearing about OnePlus' plans to release a smartwatch. The rumors have been there for about a year but nothing happened on the official announcement front. But with the latest listing, we can expect it to become official sooner than later.

The whole idea behind releasing diverse products is to create an ecosystem of OnePlus devices. This is something many other brands have done or also in the process of doing. These include the likes of Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and Google. We will have to see exactly when OnePlus Watch gets official.
