Apple's "Time Flies" virtual event is currently underway and has begun with the launch of Apple Watch Series 6. It is the newest smartwatch from the Cupertino-based tech giant and is a direct successor to Watch Series 5. Apple is touting it as the most colorful Apple Watch lineup ever with new Graphite and Product Red variants.
The Apple Watch Series 6 comes with a new sensor capable of monitoring blood oxygen levels. It is able to detect the Blood O2 level within 15 seconds with the help of infrared (IR). It shines Red when the detection process is underway so that the user is always aware of what is going on.
Under the hood, the new Apple Watch comes with the S6 processor, a dual-core chip based on the Apple A13 Bionic silicon available on the iPhone 11 series. It is capable of showing elevation in real-time which is a good thing for trekkers. The smartwatch is now loaded with numerous new watch faces including GMT for multiple time zones, Count Up for elapsed time, Chronograph Pro with Tachymeter, typograph faces, Memoji faces, the custom artist faces, and more.
Apple is introducing a new watch band called Solo Loop. It is made of silicone so that it stretches and is easier on the wrist. There are different colors and sizes to choose from. There is also a braided version along with new Nike band colors, and two new Hermes bands.
In case you want to have an Apple Watch for family members who do not have an iPhone, Apple has introduced Family Setup. It is a functionality that will allow family members to use a single iPhone for pairing their respective Apple Watch. For kids, you will be able to choose who they can message using the Watch as well as set GPS alerts for them.
As one would expect, the Apple Watch Series 6 will run the brand-new watchOS 7 out of the box. The new smartwatch starts at $399 for the GPS model and at $499 for the GPS + Cellular model. Both these variants are already up for orders via Apple.com and Apple Store application. These will be sold through the physical Apple Store starting September 18th.
