Fitbit OS 5.0 is here with new UI, navigation updates but limited to two watches

28 September 2020 0

Fitbit's newly launched smartwatches Versa 3 and Sense are now available for purchase which means it is also time for the new software update. We are talking about Fitbit OS 5.0 which is specifically meant for the aforementioned smartwatches. It is packed with new UI and navigation updates that should bring user experience improvements.

The new update is being touted as the "largest and most impactful smartwatch update since the launch of Fitbit Ionic in 2017". There are new gestures for navigating across different menus and options. One can swipe left to right for going back from one screen to another. The left-hand side button can be pressed for switching to the clock face.

The software development team has come up with a new font called Raiju. This new font is available everywhere on the UI and is said to be a lot more space sufficient. The font is also said to be easier to read which is another important from a user experience's aspect. There are also various visual elements related to buttons, backgrounds, icons, colors, and tiles.

As we said in the beginning, Fitbit OS 5.0 is limited to the new Versa 3 and Sense smartwatches. The official statement makes it clear that there are no plans for upgrading older smartwatches.

Here is the official statement:

“Fitbit OS 5.0 has been developed exclusively for Versa 3 and Sense, and there are no plans to bring this to older devices. Fitbit OS 5.0 includes UI enhancements and new experiences that are optimized for the new custom display and speaker on Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3."
