OnePlus ceased all those mysteries to rest in October 2020 by confirming it is indeed working on its first smartwatch. Later in December again, it somewhat reiterated that a smartwatch is under development. While OnePlus has been pretty vocal about the existence of its first smartwatch, it is mum on the details. However, some ongoing leaks have made it more apparent and pronounced.
Some tipsters and certification listings have confirmed the existence of the OnePlus Watch already. Now, a new certification is posing a great hint at the near launch of the smartwatch.
Spotted first by the tipster Mukul Sharma, the smartwatch has made its way to BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), reflecting the launch could be just around the corner. The listing is exposing no great details that could sensationalize the long-awaited smartwatch. But it does reveal that there are two variants of the smartwatch that have model numbers – W501GB and W301GB. The two variants are suspected to be Wi-Fi and LTE models. No other details are listed.
Before this certification, the watch with one of the model numbers was spotted on IMDA certification as well. The listing also didn’t help except for revealing the model number. Later Max J. tipster claimed the watch is going to be circular.
In December, Pete Lau, CEO, and Co-founder of OnePlus confirmed the development of the smartwatch. But the context of his statements reflected that the first watch might not run WearOS. Although he revealed it is working with Google to make some improvements in the WearOS. He even disclosed on which sectors the two companies are working upon. He revealed they are primarily focusing on improving the connectivity across a smartwatch. There must be some other areas as well on which OnePlus and Google are working together but the two haven’t made a mention of them. But we look forward to some interesting outcomes from the partnership of the two.
