UPDATE (October 26th, 2021):

A new Digitimes report has claimed that Apple has started working with suppliers to work on components that will enable blood glucose monitoring on the Apple Watch Series 8. They are essentially working on short-wavelength infrared sensors which are commonly seen in health devices. We should be hearing more details as time will pass.

The Apple Watch is one of the best smartwatches that one can get, especially if health-related features are a priority. It already has a number of noteworthy features and most recently, it was rumored to be in line to get blood glucose monitoring. Now, new evidence has emerged suggesting we could see that happening as early as 2022.

Rockley Photonics, a UK-based startup, has filed an application with the SEC. The startup is known for producing sensors helpful in monitoring the user's blood through infrared light. It has mentioned Apple has one of its biggest clients in the last two years in the filing. This has strengthened speculations that Apple Watch will get support for monitoring blood glucose.

Even Andrew Rickman, CEO of the aforementioned startup, has revealed that they are expecting their technology to arrive in consumer products in 2022. He has not mentioned the name of the Apple Watch but the rumor mill is again pointing at the possibility of it becoming a reality.

It is important to note that all of these are only speculations at this point. We are yet to get any official response from both parties or even any substantial proof to back these rumors. We would suggest you take these claims with a pinch of salt for the time being but as and when something concrete will surface, we will keep you updated.
