Update: July 23, 2021
According to a new report from DigiTimes, the long-rumored AirPods 3 might launch alongside the iPhone 13 series that in turn is speculated to have a September launch. The report cites sources that are said to be familiar with the matter. The latest report actually echoes some of the recent reports that have stated the production of the AirPods 3 will start somewhere in August. The report states that shipments of certain components needed for the AirPods have already begun in "small volumes." It will be further ramped up in the third and fourth quarter of the year.
Citing the sources, the report claims the third-gen AirPods will remain price-friendly and their demand will increase with the release of new iPhones. The report doesn't mention anything else apart from sharing the expected launch.

The long-rumored Apple AirPods 3 is now speculated to launch on May 18. The tip is coming from a YouTuber Luke Miani who reportedly conveyed this to the tech site AppleTrack. The YouTuber has reportedly even confirmed that Apple could unveil the new AirPods via a press release simply, just what it did with its two previous generation earbuds.
The site, however, further puts its independent claim citing sources that it heard Apple is planning to release new AirPods in the coming weeks.
Well, if the said launch date is true, we are just a few days away from witnessing the third-generation AirPods.
Previously, two reports in March claimed AirPods 3 is unlikely to enter mass production in Q3 2021, which starts in July and ends in September. For comparison, the second-generation AirPods were launched in March 2019. So, with this reference, it seems likely to see AirPods 3 launching in the coming days and not in Q3 or after that.
Apple held an event in April where it launched many new products, including the AirTag. It was supposed that Apple would launch the AirPods 3 as well but it didn’t happen. Apple has been launching its AirPods via a press release, so it is now assumed that the third-gen AirPods will be launched the same way.
Past leaks have suggested, AirPods 3 is going to have a design inspired by AirPods Pro, with a short stem and curved body. A leaked set of images show, the alleged AirPods 3 case is similar to that of AirPods Pro, encasement from inside, however, looks a bit different. The leak also claimed the AirPods 3 may support Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), another feature borrowed from the AirPods Pro. Also, earlier this month, it was speculated that AirPods 3 could come with Apple Music HiFi streaming support.
Let’s see if these TWS are really going to launch on May 18.
